Questions you wish you knew beforehand

Please reach us at info@forbes-aviation.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Start with a Discovery Flight. You’ll fly with an instructor, take the controls, and learn what training is like. After that, you’ll receive a training plan and scheduling login.

No. Most students begin with zero experience. Everything is taught step-by-step.

  •  Valid ID (Driver's License and U.S. Passport)
  • Ability to speak/read/understand English
  • Medical certificate (for solo + most programs)
  • Discovery Flight or intro meeting with an instructor

 Yes—for solo and higher ratings.
We recommend a 3rd Class Medical for most students.
BasicMed is also accepted for some pilots.

Most students finish in 3–6 months depending on:

  • Weather
  • Schedule availability
  • Study habits
  • Consistency

2–3 lessons per week provides the best progress and lowest total cost.

Yes — we offer training 7 days a week, including evenings.

If weather prevents safe flying, we may:

  • Fly later in the day
  • Switch to simulator training
  • Do a ground lesson instead

You always stay productive.

 Costs depend on:

  • Aircraft choice
  • Lesson frequency
  • Fuel, weather, and actual flight hours

See our Programs & Rates page for current pricing.

We do not offer in-house financing, but many students:

  • Self-fund over time
  • Use personal loans
  • Use HELOC or line-of-credit options
  • Pay as they go
  • Utilize Stratus, AOPA etc

Not at this time. If fuel costs rise significantly, surcharges may be applied.

  • You can begin flight training at any age
  • You must be 16 to solo
  • You must be 17 for the Private Pilot checkride

Most students solo between 15–25 hours, depending on consistency and comfort level.

No. Training at a towered airport makes you:

  • More confident
  • Better at radio communication
  • More prepared for real-world flying

This is a major advantage over non-towered schools.

 We train in:

  • Piper Cherokee 180 (80W, 83N)
  • Piper Archer II (71Y)
  • Piper Cherokee 235 (31W – High Performance/TAA)
  • Piper Arrow IV (24Y – Complex/TAA)

Yes — we have a Microsoft Flight Simulator training station with:

  • Garmin 430
  • Radio stack
  • Realistic controls
  • Matching layouts to our Piper fleet

Great for:

  • Instrument practice
  • Radio work
  • Procedures
  • Emergency scenarios

Most checkrides are conducted by DPEs in the Idaho region.
Your instructor will help schedule and prepare you.

Your instructor will help you choose the best materials. We also utilize online ground school to help get you prepared.
We also provide:

  • Study plans
  • Ground review sessions
  • Simulator time
  • Endorsements

Around 45–60 minutes, including ground briefing and flying time.

Yes — 1 passenger is typically allowed depending on weight and weather.

Yes — under instructor supervision, you’ll have an opportunity to take the controls shortly after takeoff.
